"Defeat Denial"
Because I wanted the viewer to experience how these dismissive phrases might make someone suffering with a mental illness feel, every scene was shot POV. As if the viewer was standing in their shoes. Increasing the pace of the edits and overlapping the audio also created an uncomfortable sensation; practically overwhelming the viewer. Which was particularly impactful in cinema where we used 7.1 Surround Sound to envelope the audience with dialogue that seemed to be coming at them from all angles. All this served to make the punctuation at the end – the “silence” of “suffering in silence” even more dramatic.
